This is probably the weirdest mask I’ve ever used, and there are only two ingredients in it:
Toothpaste and Salt.
I’ve been looking at a bunch of DIY recipes for masks, but they always contain products that I don’t have in my house, and would have to purchase. If I’m going to buy a whole bunch of ingredients, I’d rather just buy a pre-made mask to be honest. But then I came across this strange little mask, and I actually had the ingredients, so I thought I’d give it a go!
Using salt in a face mask seems scary to me, since salt is pretty harsh. But I was really curious by this point! And so here we are:
Grab a small bowl
Add around a teaspoon of salt followed by a good amount of toothpaste. White toothpaste would probably be best, but this one was all I had.
Mix together until you get this consistency:
Steam your face with hot water (but not too hot, I don’t want you burning your beautiful faces!), then apply a thin layer to your entire face or t-zone. Wait five minutes, then begin scrubbing it in slightly before rinsing off with warm water. Directly after, splash your face with cold water to close your pores.
I’m not going to lie, this stuff burns!! I was actually terrified the first time I tried it, but you get used to it. It must be all that salt eating away at blackheads and dead skin. It also made my nose run a bit, but as a bonus it cleared my sinuses!
Results: The next few days I was able to go without makeup because my skin was smoother with reduced redness, shine and oil. Surprisingly, it did not dry out my skin and I noticed my acne cleared as well. I use this once a week and when I see a breakout coming, I use this mixture as a spot treatment.
It’s definitely not the classiest face mask out there, but it’s inexpensive and gets the job done. Plus you smell minty fresh afterwards, if you’re in to that.
Please let me know if you have tried any DIY masks that you liked!
